WIND VENTILATION

In life, there is no way to avoid disappointments, and this applies to every aspect of daily life. Many times we create expectations and they are not met, and as a result we end up in a situation of improvisation. Improvising is very relevant in our lives because, of all the plans we make, few succeed and reach a satisfactory conclusion. Today's topic, without reservations, is the Society of Disappointment.

Wanting is possible, but it is not absolute. Even while learning to live with disappointments, I still feel the hurt in my fingers as I write these words. It is not without reason. Behind disappointments there are many roots of hope for achieving a goal, and when that does not happen — that is, when we do not reach our objectives — the body becomes vulnerable. As a result, various illnesses can arise and spread, one of the main ones being depression and its levels of outbreak. In the Society of Disappointment this becomes very clear: the more expectations are frustrated, the greater the damage to the health of those who become targets (by themselves and by their expectations) of an ailment that has been spreading across many parts of our collective. I dare say that many things in this world fail because of this: we must expect less and work with low expectations, simply so we do not become ill.

It may seem unbelievable, but conflicts on our planet tend to decrease as we grow closer to reality. Well then, if you wear a shoe and receive one that is larger or smaller than your size, you will not react the same way as someone who receives a shoe that fits perfectly. Yes, we are talking about dopamine! The greatest villain of all this. Dopamine levels regulate our emotions of satisfaction and joy, and meanwhile millions of people go hungry in our home — Earth.

So I ask you: how is it possible to be happy knowing that many people are starving while others literally throw food in the trash? If you know the answer, put it in the comments, because I feel a kind of anguish about this, especially when I see the advertisements from the UN Refugee Agency and UNICEF cases, where malnourished children are increasingly — even as you read this post — dying. The program most widely promoted is "Food to Go," where you donate some amount of money and begin to feed a person, especially a child. It is the most common approach, but note: you do not feed only the child, you feed an entire family. The price of a pizza in Brazil (about 65 BRL), according to the ads, can feed a family for one month.

Regarding the question posed in the previous paragraph, the answer I have for myself is that we, in truth, are not happy; we are a Machiavellian project of convincing ourselves that problems and causes like these do not exist, and a large portion of people live a life of lies, as if nothing is happening, and that is how many — honestly, it is not an exaggeration, many, in fact the vast majority — live. It is past time for us to think of viable solutions to the problem of world hunger, so I ask you: are you doing your part? And my hope is that your answer is yes. In the next post I will try to address this subject more diligently, because I have few alternatives left when I think about how ungoverned we are; even under an excellent government, we are still ungoverned. What good are the efforts we make when tomorrow is uncertain for millions of lives (and we depend on those lives to live — which is a fact) — this because we live on a globalized planet and tensions in one part of the Earth reverberate everywhere.

It is time to put our hand on our conscience and think about this terrible problem, and I will say in advance: any and every solution necessarily requires an increase in trust in international organizations; primarily trust in the UN. Our lives are intertwined under the lens of the invisible thread that is the society of these times. We all feel hunger, but the difference is that some fill their bellies and the hunger passes, while others even think about eating their own fingers because there is no food anywhere. Not only in conflict zones (which are becoming normalized) but in every place we can imagine. What I beg of you who are reading is to think about how to manage a society with a more equitable distribution relative to population density, given the existing resources, since this applies to all of us, because all of us, without exception, are hungry.
