Brazil and the Month of December.

December is always a month of celebrations, even for the excluded and for all those who are no longer among us. The turn of the year is always something incredible, and for those who celebrate Christmas, the party is doubled. If you are in the same situation as I am, having a birthday in December, then the celebration is tripled. Today, December 24, 2025, is a special date for all Christians, who celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and the phenomenon that is Santa Claus.

That said, there is no doubt that every year, December is the month of charity, the time when the spirit rises highest, like a bomb exploding in our hearts, making us feel more deeply what compassion and mercy truly are—not only through Christianity, but also through the phenomenon of the New Year’s Eve. The New Year undoubtedly arrives full of hope for all of us. That is why, regardless of religion or calendar, the transition from the old year to the new one is always marked by hope and renewal, even for those who follow the lunar calendar, such as China, for example.

Traditions are multiple across every corner of the world, and each country has its own customs. Here in Brazil, we celebrate December and the arrival of January with great joy, following the Earth’s rotation around the Sun. Safeguarding all calendars and respecting all differences, if you ask how Brazil is doing, believe me: we are so Brazilian that we are already in the rhythm of February, when Carnival takes place. Brazil is this blend of anticipation and counterpoint, something few understand, but once they do, it is impossible not to be Brazilian—it is in the faith, in the art, in the blood. Listening to a Brazilian beat, it is always possible to hear the heart of the children of this land, our beloved homeland, Brazil.

So as not to go on too long, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. And may Carnival come, when we here are always ready to welcome, with open arms, those who wish to venture and explore the already explored—by the native peoples—Brazil.
