CLIMATE CRISIS AND INDIVIDUAL ACTIONS

Then, one fine day, you realize that the climate is in chaos, and that many are — and will be — suffering because of it. What actions should we take?

It’s true that everything happens within society, so any measure to be taken must consider the collective. However, when it comes to the Climate Crisis, each person must raise their own flag; otherwise, many will “pay a high price” for the majority’s omission.

When this topic comes up, people almost always talk about Planetary Temperature and Rising Sea Levels — and yes, that’s serious. So serious, in fact, that we often fail to notice the obvious: several factors can contribute to a Climate Tragedy capable of triggering a Human Apocalypse — because other species will survive.

There is a great need to understand that the Climate Crisis is more than a matter of species survival. It’s about recognizing the obvious and acting accordingly: understanding that the problem is here, that there are no individual culprits, and that everyone must play their part to make an ideal planetary temperature viable.

The year 2024 was recorded as the hottest in history, with a global average temperature of ~15.3°C — an increase of +1.6°C, considered a historic record. The city of Dubai recorded 250 mm of rain in 24 hours, 91% of the oceans experienced at least one marine heatwave, East Africa endured five consecutive years of drought, and Pakistan lost US$30 billion due to flooding.

The problem is evident. What must not be done is to expect that governments alone will solve it. They want to solve it, but alone, they are powerless. The problem is complex, and from complexity arises the understanding that cooperation is both the key and the solution.

Greater attention must be given to Government Programs focused on Education. Only through Education will we find a way to solve the Climate Crisis that has plagued us for the past 10 years — and continues to do so. By embedding in the individual perspective the need for a stable and ideal model of life, we will all know how to proceed, won’t we?
